A current member and former chairman of the Hoag Hospital Endowment and Planned Gift s Committee, Garbutt became a member of the Hoag Hospital Foundation Board of Directors in 2001—the same year he underwent heart surgery at Hoag Hospital.

“I hope to continue the high standards that Hank has set for this tournament,” said Garbutt, president of Newport Beachbased Certifi ed Financial Group, Inc. “I am honored to accept this new role and am looking forward to working with so many people in the community.”

Ira’s main responsibilities as Toshiba Classic chairman include leading Orange County’s only PGA Tour event by reaching out to local business leaders for sponsorship support, and engaging individuals to get involved.

“Ira shares a passion and commitment for Hoag Hospital that mirrors Hank’s legacy of hard work and dedication. We’re thrilled to have him as tournament chairman,” comments Jeff Purser, tournament director.

Ira’s previous position as volunteer chairman is being fi lled by Brian Horn, a seven-year Toshiba Classic volunteer. He also serves on the Blue Rhino Foundation Golf Tournament committee and volunteers as the assistant coach to the Newport Harbor High School Golf Team. Th e Horn family is committed to supporting the ongoing eff orts of the Toshiba Classic’s main benefi ciary, Hoag Hospital.

“We have been blessed with a new found connection to Hoag, and the level of care my family has received has been unbelievable,” said Horn, founder of Newport Finance Group, Inc. “We owe a tremendous amount to everyone involved with Hoag, and I’m looking forward to stepping up in the Volunteer Chair position and working with Ira, the many seasoned volunteers, and the rest of the Toshiba Classic team.”

As Toshiba Classic volunteer chairman, Horn will oversee the volunteer operations committee—consisting of approximately 30 committees and 45 chair/co-chairs—and the recruitment of 1,000 volunteers to assist with tournamentrelated duties.

We are very excited to have Brian on board as volunteer chairman,” explains Purser. “His enthusiasm for Hoag and the community will inspire many people to volunteer. He and Ira will make a great team overseeing next year’s tournament.”
